Things I Love Thursday | Baby Fever

I got a FEVER! And the only prescription…is little squish.

Yep, I have the baby fever. I am that creep making kissy faces at your bebeh in public places, making little squeals of glee when it smiles back at me.

Things I Love Thursday - Baby Fever

Papa Bear and I have been working on the whole baby thing for a couple of months, but I just recently got insurance (yay!), and headed off to the doc for some blood work. Unfortunately, I’m a little short on certain antibodies, so I need to get a couple of vaccinations, which mean we’re going to have to wait three months before we get back to it.

Boo for that. But at the same time, for every month I’m not pregnant, it’s another month closer to Papa Bear being done with school and us being back to two incomes. That’s not the worst thing in the world. And hey, we were planning on taking next month off anyway, because I have married two Christmas babies, and if I can avoid another poor kid hearing the “Christmas and birthday present” line, that’s just fine with me.

But still, I am absolutely gooshing out over all things kid and baby lately. With that in mind, let’s get to this week’s Things I Love Thursday!

Things I Love Thursday | Geekery

I have a confession. I am a geek. Or possibly a nerd.

What’s the difference? According to the dictionary, not much.

Geek: A person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest

Nerd: An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession

If you ask me (and I know you didn’t, but here you are on my blog, so I’m going to give it to you), you can differentiate the two by fandom. Nerds are sci-fi, geeks are fantasy. Although I would fall more heavily into the geek category, I am also quite a nerd.

For today’s Things I Love Thursday, we celebrate all things geeky and nerdy. Come along with me, socially awkward friends. This one is going to be fun.

Macklemore | Friday Obsessions

I have a confession. I am head over heels for a man who isn’t my husband.

His name is Macklemore.

My sister shared his NPR Tiny Desk Concert video on her Facebook page a few months ago, and I have been hooked ever since.

His hair, his style, his smile, his aura, everything is pure happiness and love. In the course of this video, you’ll laugh, cry, get down, and get the urge to move will shoot out from somewhere deep inside your belleh through every limb and extremity. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a hip hop artist speak so deeply on topics like equality in “Same Love”, nor have I ever heard a hook as bad (in a good way) as on “Thrift Shop.”

Thanks to that one, and the clean version I found on Spotify, I now have baby bear saying “Popping taaaaags.” Baller.

Seriously, if you have somehow escaped hearing about Macklemore until now, do not skip this video. Required viewing.

Since I first saw this, Macklemore has shot up to #1 on iTunes and he is EVERYWHERE. In my morning blog reading, I even noticed Young House Love (swoon) has a Thrift Shop Challenge today!

Happy a happy Friday, y’all, it’s going to be a frigid and busy one for me!

Alternative Natural Sweetners | Friday Obsessions

An understandably important element of the cleanse Papa Bear and I are doing next week is the elimination of refined white sugar, especially in the first week.

Honey Spoons

Of course, I still like things like my tea a little bit sweetened. Luckily, there are a whole range of alternative sweeteners out there. And no, I’m not talking about the crap that comes in those little pink, blue and yellow packets. Because as it turns out, ingesting a white powder made almost entirely of chemicals is not a good thing.

Although there are a lot of alternative sweeteners out there, natural and otherwise, I have three go to’s in my cupboard at all times. Here are my favorites!

Descent Into Discbound Madness | Friday Obsessions

Are you obsessed with planning, listing and mapping out your days, weeks, months, and life?

I am. Pretty hard. Over the years, the notebooks and pieces of scrap paper have nearly taken over my life. For real, this is what my Google Calendar looks like.

Google Calendar

I have a problem, I know. You’ll notice my one-hour block of “Me Time” between 5 and 6 o’clock on Mondays. This is what happens when you’re a freelance workaholic with a day job.

But alas, this online thing just isn’t working for me. Although it’s relatively easy to move things around in Google Calendar, I am often in a place (like at work) where I can’t be online or on my phone. Also, something about the nature of writing something with a pencil plants things more firmly in my memory.

So I went looking for a day planner option that I would actually use – one that I could customize to my OCD heart’s content. And I found it on one of my favorite blogs o’obsession, I Heart Organizing.
