Things I Love Thursday | Garden Whimsy

The garden is an enchanted place.

It is a place of countless generations, plants that have been around seemingly for all of time, and new ones planting their roots and sprouting new life every season.

Now that spring has officially sprung (kind of, it’s still 15 degrees here in Chicago and it dusted snow yesterday), it is high time to get back to the garden. In spirit anyway, there are still a couple more months before we should really be putting anything in the ground around these parts.

Although we don’t have a garden of our own this year, we are still working on my parents’ Retirement Garden. My mother adores garden whimsy and decor, so today I thought I would put together a roundup of some of my favorites!

We have always had trouble finding the small markers we have used in the past for plants. These are so cute, cheap and easy, and it looks like we’ll actually be able to find them!

I have had my eye on this little fairy home forever. There is a tree out back that is literally begging for one of these.

This is more a nod to our and Baby Bear’s geekiness than my parents, but come on, this is the coolest thing ever.

Such a cool DIY! The current round stepping stones in the garden are what Baby Bear refers to as the “magic stones” – these are even more magical!

How to Organize Craft Supplies

Confessions, people.

How much of your living place is covered in knitting and craft supplies? I know as well as anyone, it gets pretty bad. There are just so many little pieces, as well as big and bulky things, oddly shaped items…it’s a mess.

How to Organize Craft Supplies

There are so many people out there that have their act far more together than I do, but there was a time when I was not nearly as organized as I am now. My poor husband was about to lose his mind with the craft mess, so I decided I had to do something about the clutter.

Today I am going to show you a few of my craft clutter solutions, and how I organize and categorize them. They’re not all beautiful glossy magazine-style solutions. I didn’t spend hundreds of dollars at The Container Store (it was actually about $5 at Michaels, some garage sale finds and a bunch of Ziploc bags). But my clutter is now well-contained and best of all, when I need those stitch markers or yarn needles, I know where to find them.

And that’s freaking rad.

Home Tour | House Animals

Man, it has been a week of new features around here, hasn’t it?

You see, all of this new traffic has given me a swift kick in the butt to finally get around to sprucing up this blog into the vision of it I have in my head. New features, new formats (do you like the new design on the intro image below? I’m sort of into dashes right now), all kinds of new stuff.

If you have been picking up what I’ve been putting down lately, I would be ever so grateful if you would share posts you enjoy around the interwebs! Just under each post is an easy peasy share button to Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. Share the love!

Home Tour - House Animals

Today I wanted to give you a little peek inside our place. While it’s certainly nothing you would find in a design magazine, being a temporary apartment and all, it does have its charms. And it is FULL of animals.

Two are of the breathing variety, one is in a box under my bed (the ashes of my dear deceased bunny Marshall – I know, I’m creepy to the max), and many more are of the decorative sort.

Owls and bunnies and dragons oh my!

365 Photo Challenge | Day 44 | Swing

Day 44 - Swing

Day 44 of the 365 photo challenge is “Swing.” It’s a little too cold out lately to go on the swings, but the big orange butterfly suspended from Baby Bear’s ceiling swings in the breeze when it is warm enough to keep the windows open. Hopefully soon!

Home Tour | Meet our Plants

Papa Bear and I love greenery, but we can’t have a lot of it in our house. First, this is a tiny apartment, and finding places to put plants is tough. Also, the light is terrible, with no sunlight entering the kitchen and living room because we keep the blinds closed due to people walking past.

Enter garage sale and grafted succulents. They like a lot of light, but many can do without it, and they don’t need to be watered very often. Oh, and our plants have names. Let’s meet them.
