Journal Embroidery | You Shall Not Pass

Embroidery floss is a hell of a drug.

It comes in hundreds of colors in every tiny variation of hue, and taunts me every time I enter a craft store, daring me to buy each and every one. And at just a handful of pennies each, I probably could. But alas, I resist. Because one only needs so much floss.

And I’ve hardly ever even embroidered.

I occasionally use the flossy stuff for knitting projects, but actual embroidery projects? Yeah, I’ve never done one of those. Kind of makes my floss addiction seem silly. But the COLORS. Oh, the colors.

Journal Embroidery | You Shall Not Pass

Lately Meredith over at One Sheepish Girl (who I have just about the biggest shy geek crush on ever – LOVE HER) has been doing a lot of journal embroidery (here, here, here and here), and I thought, hey, I could totally do that! But I’m not much of a journaler. But I am a day planner.

Even though I still don’t have my planner finished due to me still not recovering my life off my hard drive, I still have quite a few important bits in my handy dandy Discbound, and I felt the front page needed a stern warning to any would be intruders.

Yes, Gandalf would do nicely for that.

Things I Love Thursday | Geekery

I have a confession. I am a geek. Or possibly a nerd.

What’s the difference? According to the dictionary, not much.

Geek: A person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest

Nerd: An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession

If you ask me (and I know you didn’t, but here you are on my blog, so I’m going to give it to you), you can differentiate the two by fandom. Nerds are sci-fi, geeks are fantasy. Although I would fall more heavily into the geek category, I am also quite a nerd.

For today’s Things I Love Thursday, we celebrate all things geeky and nerdy. Come along with me, socially awkward friends. This one is going to be fun.

DAO Bunny Pig Knitting Pattern

My January pattern, which is the first pattern I have designed specifically for you guys, is a trio of adorable little Bunny Nugs, named after the food source/occasional pet Nugs from Dragon Age: Origins.

Oh those adorable little subterranean bunny pigs. Leliana, one of the party rogues who happens to be absolutely loony, names hers Schmooples.

Where the hell have I been? Geeking out, that’s where.

It’s strange. Even though I haven’t posted anything in the last couple of days, I feel like I’ve been on here constantly. Unfortunately, there is no mechanism yet to directly transfer your thoughts into blog posts. But that certainly doesn’t mean I’ve been slacking.

On Tuesday, my only real, normal day off of the week, I was planning on heading down to the haunted house to take some pictures for the Lost Post from Monday, but it was cold and raining and I didn’t have a car, but I did have lots of knitting to be done.

Wiggum helping

So I finished up Preston’s cute little Button Tab Hat in Malabrigo Rios Aguas, and had three false starts on the Hurry Up Spring Armwarmers for my sister before finally frogging it again and giving up for the night. There are some crazy ass stitches in that one that I just couldn’t figure out without a good night’s sleep.

Creeping in Mr. Skellington

Yeah, so I totally left Mr. Skellington 99% done, as I tend to do with projects (hence this, my accountabili-blog), but seriously, I will get it done tomorrow. In the meantime, this is the picture we took of me creeping outside the shop a couple of weeks ago. Anyhoo, when I finish it for real, you’ll be the first to know. Tomorrow, I swear. Tattoo here I come!

I don't know why I bothered to make a face for this picture.

Go check out the original pattern from Saskia de Feijter here.
