Today is my birthday. This day, March the 29th, I turn 30. And it’s 50 degrees out, so BONUS!
Weirdly enough, I’m kind of liking this 30 thing already. A big birthday like this makes you think. It makes you think about what you want to put out into the world and what you want to get back from it. That’s exactly what I have been doing for the last couple of months.
You see, for some time now I have been feeling like I have been getting pulled in so many directions. There is of course my day job/career which I love. That is a place where, as a barber, my job is to help people find their way to looking like the best version of themselves. My job is to guide and educate them so they feel like they have a handle on their hair.
Yes, it is just hair, but as with every part of presenting yourself to the world, once you have an element of it down, that is one less thing you need to worry about in letting you be you. It leaves you free to focus on the more important stuff.
The disconnect for me was happening with the blog here, we do so many things. Knitting, crafts and DIY, recipes, home and garden, style, and more recently, seasonal color. Ever since we started discussing color and how it impacts your life and style here on the blog, the response has been overwhelming. Comments and emails poured in from both men and women (although the boys went more for email) who have always struggled with finding colors and a style that suited them.
After a few months of questions like this, I decided that I wanted to be able to help people more thoroughly than I could over the course of a few emails, and in a much more organized way. So I decided to put together a color analysis service for Leave Me to My Projects. Within the first week I found myself crushed under orders, and had to raise the price slightly to keep up with demand. But more people kept reaching out, and I knew I had hit on something that resonated.
And then one day at work while talking to one of my regular clients about this service, he could not stop asking questions. Which really put me in a pickle, because I was attempting to shave his face with a straight razor at the time. It does not help the process if the part I am trying to shave is bouncing about.
But he was interested in this color thing, so I showed him a few colors in his eyes, skin and hair that would suit him beautifully. He left with a bounce in his step not only because he was cleaned up so nicely, but because he found out that he was wearing pants in his Romance color, and he was on his way home to see his wife. I told him to pick up some flowers on the way.
Suddenly, it all came together. These two parts of my work life, blogging and grooming, did not need to be at odds with each other. I just needed to refocus my efforts. All of my energy needs to be going toward that one goal, or calling, if you will, of using the knowledge that is the product of my obsessive research and learning to help people look and feel like their most authentic selves.
So it is with that goal in mind that I officially announce that Leave Me to My Projects is going to undergo a metamorphosis. I will be cocooning up for a few months to move this blog to its new name and domain, Rainbow Your World. I will still be accepting color analysis orders during that time (you can get your own personal color analysis right here!), but I will also be gearing up to offer four different levels of color analysis service when the new and improved blog launches: both simple and detailed versions for yourself, one for your home, and one for your wedding.
If you subscribe to the Rainbow Your World before its relaunch on the Summer Solstice, June 21st, you will get 10% off any of these new services, and be kept up to date on blog news and updates (no more than once every two weeks, Community Members know how little email I send you guys!)
The new blog will cover everything you ever wanted to know about color, seasons, personal style archetypes, and how to put together your perfect wardrobe, for both men and women. I have absolutely loved creating this blog and I am so grateful to each and every one of you that has made it the magical place it is. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
But this is sooooo not the end. The good stuff is just beginning. This blog has always had an overriding purpose. It was created to be
Your personal guide to growing up, living weird and living well.
And that is still exactly what I aim to do. Because as I have hit the three decade mark, I have realized that being happy and at peace is all about understanding yourself, inside and out. Funny thing though. When you get the outside right, the rest starts to follow.
Come on over and check out the start of the new digs. They may be brand new, the key may still be in the door, and there are still lots of boxes waiting to be unpacked, but I think you will find something familiar about the place. Head on over, subscribe, and get ready for the journey that is going to help you find your most authentic self.
