I wanted to get a post out really quickly this morning to apologize for my ghostliness on the blog over the last week.
Papa Bear and I just moved! New place, new start, and, unfortunately, a new round of illness. I guess I get myself entirely too worked up prior to big life events (remember the 104 degree fever leading up to my wedding?) and my immune system is just crippled or something. Either that, or it’s all the people that keep coming in for haircuts even though they’re sick.
I will never understand the human race.
But on to the new apartment!
Our new place is cute but small inside, and a little motel-ish outside, but the neighbors are all nice and there are lots of kids just about Baby Bear’s age that she started befriending on day one. Let me give you a little tour of the place (we have only had moving day and one day of unpacking, so forgive the disarray).
The bedroom with a glorious closet that stretches the entire wall there. Surely many adorable decor things will start happening in here.
The kitchen, which is pretty close to unpacked and organized already. A trip to Ikea yesterday gave us some great ideas for extra storage and adorableness here. Oh, and see those big round things on the refirgerator? Magnetic spice tins. With some super fresh and gorgeous whole spices from The Spice House in them. We are sooooo ready to cook.
The living room, which is going to have to be an office, a craft room and a barbershop as well. This is going to take some major doing to make this room serve its many functions. I am sure whatever the solution ends up being is going to be a blog post in an of itself. And oh look, both kitties are out of hiding. Monty’s an old hand at this moving thing, but it is Wiggum’s first time, and she is a little confused and skittery.
I’m not bothering to show you the boring bathroom or Baby Bear’s room, which is sort of a box staging area until she is back with us this weekend. Those will be cute eventually too, but for now, there’s nothing to see there.
One slight downside to the apartment, besides the trickle of water coming out of the shower head (we’re going to have to call maintenance about that) is the fact that we butt right up to the backside of the Citgo on the corner, which is playing “Gas Station Radio” all day until they close. You can’t hear it from inside (we’ll see once it is back to open window season), so it’s workable.
It’s certainly not the nicest place I’ve ever lived, but it works for this year with Papa Bear in school. Besides, this is what newlyweds do, right? Spend all your money on the wedding, then live in a little shoebox apartment until you can save back up for a nicer place? I kind of love the challenge of making a place like this cute, cozy and homey, though.
At the rate we’re working, we should have this place looking completely moved in within the week, and then we can start nesting and making it a home. I absolutely cannot wait.
