Daily Inspiration – Warm Evenings Ahead

All of these spring breezes are making me look forward to the toasty evenings of summer with a vengeance. Mini summer getaway a-comin’.

I discovered Josh Meyers and Trekking Photography through Jamie Link Photography on Facebook and have been ooh-ing and aah-ing over his work for a couple of weeks now. He lives up in Wyoming, and while the My Backyard album of his is my favorite, it’s too warm out right now for wintery inspiration. The pebbled beach is where it’s at.

DIY Succulent Dinosaur Planter

Geek girl gardeners rejoice, for today I bring you plastic dinosaurs and succulents.

Dinosaur Planter

Grr. Argh.

The best part is, it need not be a dinosaur – it can be any awesome soft-ish plastic toy you want or already have. Maybe your kids won’t notice you cutting up their toys…

Blog Spring Cleaning and Birthdays

My 29th birthday is coming up in two days. I had almost forgotten. 29 is not exactly a banner year. Next year perhaps I will do something grand, but this year Papa Bear and I may just go out to dinner.

Natalie's 1st Birthday

I feel about my 29th birthday the way I seem to have felt about my 1st. Meh.

The clock rolling over has gotten me thinking, what do I want to do with this next year? Well, I will be done with school and working full time again (both at the barbershop and on the blog) in June, leetle seester will be getting married in July, I will be getting married in August, Baby Bear will be getting a little brother or sister (not from me!) in November, and I will be doing my best to grow this blog to a point where Papa Bear and I can give her another one and I can take some maternity leave when that happens.

Hopefully there will be a honeymoon in there somewhere. There is a bit more to The Master Plan, but this blog is here for the long haul, partly because I absolutely love doing this and connecting with all of these people that are just as strange as I am, and partly because I know that this is the way I can be most useful and fulfilled in my life. This is it.

Lemongrass, Ginger & Meyer Lemon Cupcakes

Let me tell you right now, I don’t know if I can ever top this cupcake recipe. The cake is moist, delicious, and perfumed with luscious vanilla bean, biting with snappy ginger, and syrupy with aromatic lemongrass.

The frosting, and I do not make this claim lightly, is the best buttercream you will ever taste. It’s silky smooth, not too sweet, it will totally melt when it is too warm in the summer and harden a little when it’s cold, because…well, it’s mostly made of butter. Oh, and there’s more vanilla bean, as well as some Meyer lemon in there for good measure. Oh yeah.

Lemongrass, Ginger & Meyer Lemon Cupcakes. This is cupcake perfection.

This is not health food.

The Sun Garden Front Yard Master Plan

The Retirement Garden Project rolls on, every day new plants coming back to life after the winter. On Monday I told you about the history. Wednesday we reviewed the current state of the garden. Today I will bring you the first installment of the Master Plan.

Front Yard

Beautiful aged compost, all over the place, and the boys working hard.

I had planned to do this all in one post, but I thought a scant two novel-length posts for the week was enough. Rest assured, there will be more gardening coming at you next week. For now, who wants to geek out on the garden planning with me? You even decide where we put the plants! This is going to be fun.
